Expert support to achieve globally recognised
OPITO CMS accreditation for COSL in under four months.

Background

Established in 2005, COSL Drilling Europe AS operate four 6th. generation  Harsh Environment drilling units globally. With more than 400 employees and a strong commitment to running safe and efficient rig operations, COSL engaged with Ann McRobb Associates to improve their competency process and gain OPITO CMS accreditation. COSL aimed to demonstrate their safe and competent workforce through a fully managed competence assurance system to actively reduce risk and demonstrate a workforce that not only works safely but are fully trained and competent against the internationally recognised standard.

Challenges

With limited available resources and a desire to achieve CMS accreditation in a tight timeline proved challenging. There was a requirement to update all CMS documentation, as well as design, develop and implement a new online competence assurance system within the agreed timeframe. It was also important as part of the project to correctly apply the COSL core values as  well as support a positive culture change in training and competence procedures.

Solution

Before the OPITO CMS accreditation could be gained, gap analysis of the existing CMS program was undertaken. Ann McRobb Associates delivered a number of operational audits before developing a recommendation report  detailing processes to be improved and CMS documentation to be further developed. Ann McRobb Associates developed an efficient project plan to support COSL to have the correct resources in place to fully implement all recommendations as well as a new fit for purpose, online CMS system enabling OPITO CMS accreditation to be successfully achieved.

Results & Benefits

Firstly, having the full commitment, support and investment from senior management ensured a smooth and efficient accreditation process. This combined with the expertise of Ann McRobb Associates to achieve OPITO CMS accreditation ensured the correct resources are in place, policies and procedures are in line with industry best practice as well as a robust online system being implemented and maintained to demonstrate a competent workforce. This in turn has further highlighted a reduced risk of incidents. All of the above was completed in under four months, a record for achieving OPITO CMS accreditation and COSL became the 30th company globally to meet the industry standard for competence management.
